Balance
In beginning this journey with my writing, I am realizing how hard it has been to make it a priority in my busy schedule. I think that is a common block to achieving our goals. We can have the best ideas and work at it for a few days or weeks, but then we fall off the bandwagon and no change happens. If we are not intentional about making a goal a priority, it will never be achieved. Most of us have busy lives and it is difficult to fit the time in to work towards those goals. I work full-time and am a mother to four kids under the age of seven. I totally get it. However, where we invest our time and money often identifies where our priorities lie. Our goal needs to move up the ranks in our list of priorities, which often leads to the sacrifice of other things.
This is where the concept of balance comes in. Sometimes financial goals may conflict with emotional or relational goals. Then, what do we do? We need to look to where we can find balance between caring for ourselves and serving those around us. This has always been a hard one for me. I often jump into the role of the caregiver or the problem solver. Then I wonder why I feel so depleted. I have gotten out of balance, and I need to reprioritize once again. Also, I am learning that when I jump into the role of doing for others what they can do for themselves, I am not actually helping them. I am enabling them and that is not healthy for anyone involved.
I hope today that you will evaluate if your life feels in balance or out of balance. Where are your priorities? Do we need to make some changes? This will give us information to help us continue on our journey to reaching our most desired goals.
